How we read the news

The useful number is usually the one nobody quoted.

A press release reports capacity because capacity is a single figure that goes up, and a forecast reaches for 2031 because nobody can be wrong about 2031 yet. The measurement that would settle the question is usually published, usually dull, and usually missing from the write-up. We go and find it, then work out who it costs.

The omission Which number is missing?
The baseline Compared with what?
The decision Who has to act on it?
